cape cod, charleston & kanelbullar

it started online, with hinge actually. "make a friend out of town so you can get out of town. maybe I'll move there. cold af but sports, beaches, and hella attitudes with lobster, quahog, and oysters for days. hell yeah." what she told herself.

so she headed to boston, partied in southie, a drive by the stadium (it wasn't the season for it), made new friends, irish pubs, and a lot of talk about tattoos. she still has a few of these friends.

of course service dogs fly for free on planes. he was a big boy though, couldn't fit under the seat in front of her, and an extra ticket or buying out the whole row to give other people space? not in the budget at any time. not every trip was sans driggs. fun, but missing a very important medical device at home. her choice, a requirement, survivable alone with skills and awareness, always best with a buddy, just in case anything.

she left her hinge location there, veto'd the northeast living place for weather reasons (its cold enough here), met a guy, and a few long months later her and driggs packed up for the southeast, a "middle ground warm place with palm trees, oysters and southern hospitality that you can do lagom while working 3 other jobs" 2,000 miles away from home. make sense? nada. but she needed a break from real estate here, maybe do it there, door dash until another "waitress" job, already driving food for a year, at least she'd be warmer and just continue lagom. it was the dead of winter too, why not? she'll make it work with or without him.

so they made the drive in 4 days, lots of roadside stops and hotels, emergency cash envelope from dad, the ozarks, memphis blues, talladega stadium with sweet tea and a collectible shot glass from every state along the way. the ship turned around quick, but maybe she'd save up and stay there.

well, they lasted 3 months of yelling matches, locked doors with a stolen phone, chosen jobs, stolen cash, "lagom isn't good enough but give me credit for that" and not enough money to leave yet. grami called it, so she called dad, stayed with a friend for a week, dave said "write a letter if he's serious about the court threat" and got the hell out of there. they made it home in 3 days that time. the only guy she ever called her "boyfriend." illinois's corner to denver in one day to stay with dad at work that weekend, a "speeding" ticket along the way. "cool dog" he said. "you moving for college?" nope. goin' home. "cool. here's a ticket. drive safe enjoy the trip."

now... there's a lotta nice people there. he liked driggs so much he stayed as his profile picture for over a year after, with someone else the whole time. a picture of both of them in the tetons. her place. a carved tree with their initials was there. it was... cut down. not the right one though... even still... eventually... "cut it up for a project or firewood." she said. "i can't believe i let him do that. a perfectly good tree ruined forever. i can't even live with that knowledge."

a nature experiment, beach walks with driggs alone (thank god), one church visit, a bestie from mississippi to decompress with, bluegrass, blues, street vendors, and planning a sweet escape back to the red rocks with a sweetgrass rose in hand from a stranger.

drumroll please... a collection of beautiful places and lagom vibes to go along with it.

but first... therapy

she hadn't found an in-state one yet, but utah called and said "i'm worried sick this session is free keep it quiet though so I don't lose my license here." your secret's safe with us.

she loved cape cod, so she painted her this and said "you are my lighthouse thank you never leave me you're getting free shit for life just say the word and we'll meet for an exchange of gifts and wisdom. barter & trade? hell yeah." everyone needs a new tote bag.

emdr like you couldn't imagine. the ultimate venting sessions. she put up with a lot of bullshit. for years. worth every penny every time. loved the hell out of driggs. driggs too. "you're cool but idk what you're waving your hands about so much but... hell yeah i'll take a treat. every time."

grocery store rainbows

a good sign. even before grandpa. she saw one on the way to say goodbye. this one? she said thank you to the strange man who opened the door for her. he said "you shouldn't be talking to him why do you flirt with every guy on the street what are you hiding i would never look a person like that in the eye" ... *middle fingers up* boom double rainbow. *pack bags strategically* "I used to punch holes in the wall" *packs faster* "keep watch driggs." "take a photo of the license plate, write me a letter for later and sante fe has great food if you drive back that way again he ain't got shit on you. austin's great music too." ... another time.

another one seconds before hitting the boulder dead center in the desert. another one as an eagle flew alongside the drive for 10 seconds majomenos. another at the trailer shop. a few on hikes, technically not every time it rains. it means the sun is back. "greetingsss"

palmettos, gators and bourbon with a side of pineapple, calamari and buttermilk biscuits

they made her so sick. "idgaf. speechless." worth every gutache for the fat and calories. driggs was a sable too, different than "sabal" though. the whale fin? california hunchback reference. watched from the boat. great whites there too. you look like a large fish swimming from their perspective. worth the risk. every time.

kanelbullar, saffron buns & princesstårta

family traditions. svensk godis. hallå? vad är den dansk flagga på födelsedagen? den här kanelbullar är jättebra, wow, vi gå på fika imorgon? was ist deine telefonumer? vad? rød gød med flød? not even she can say that. "sueñas como tienes un potato en la boca. mi padre podría muerte si vengas más cerca. pendejo wey. mi madre tiene la paz y voy a tomar tu ojo si miras a nos como asi otra vez. entiendes? vamos. vi gå till bergen för hela helg. bring the axe. mi padre dámelo pa' protección pero like, its just decoration from etsy... no te preocupes. está bien. mira, un ciervooo que bonitooo dondé esta la mama no corre es perdido quizá. no sé. cállete la boca ya. pendejo wey."

yes ma'am. one of her best dishes.

an inactive license & stilettos in the desert

she still has her license. inactive status in one state. a few classes in another. kept the heels for modeling height just in case and for dates of course. packed in the backpack for a photo op 10 miles in. lip liner in the pocket. and a pen for... many things. field journal is a given. so is the dog, carrying their own water until they can't anymore. always coming back to the plush bed together when the dealing is done.

she'll reinstate for family and friends only. the dog will be present though. we get it, not for everyone, but it's a necessary part of her health care plan. therapist recommended, doctor approved, and office ready at your beck and call. a heads up for continuing education and realtor fees. for time's sake. pero ya tu sabes. she's quick with that shit.

a failed ecoprint turned stack of scrunchies. back to the desert... for good... until the wind blows another direction anyway... car troubles? Oh... totally...
